Mental Health Initiative for Stress and Trauma (MIST)

by THE GOVERNORS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CALGARY

The Hotchkiss Brain Institute (HBI) at the University of Calgary and the Mathison Centre for Mental Health Research and Education, are working in conjunction with dedicated members of the community, responding to the challenges in our understanding, education, and improvement of mental health by developing the Mental Health Initiative for Stress and Trauma (MIST).

The Mental Health Initiative for Stress and Trauma aims to build upon the University’s existing strength in mental health research by creating a new Research Chair position to lead the program and accomplish success in five key areas impacting emotional and mental well-being.
1. Understanding stress and emotion
2. Detecting emotional states in others
3. Brain trauma and mental health
4. Developing new treatments
5. Stress education platform for the public

This initiative was developed as an enduring and impactful legacy to the untimely death of Mike McClay, a beloved member of the Calgary community.
