Since 1908, the Society has been helping Albertans building meaningful growing spaces.
Growing in the Calgary area is challenging. When gardening here, a gardener faces rapidly fluctuating temperatures and weather—typically dry but punctuated by torrential downpours of rain, hail, often low or no snow coverage—a situation exacerbated by chinooks, compacted soil, high clay content soil, high supply costs, and limited access to gardening spaces. The Calgary Horticultural Society helps new and experienced gardeners learn ways to be successful by providing fun and educational programming all year round. Our programs are designed to help participants enjoy a beautiful garden, large or small, in their yard, on a patio or balcony, or in their homes, while being environmental stewards.
