St. Michael School is working toward a renewed playground for its students, with a target installation of Summer 2027. Located in Rosscarrock, and serving families connected to nearby communities including Glendale, Killarney/Glengarry, Spruce Cliff, Westgate, and Wildwood, St. Michael School is an important place of learning, friendship, faith, and community connection.
This playground project is about giving students a safe and engaging outdoor space where they can move, play, develop confidence, build friendships, and strengthen their sense of belonging at school. A renewed playground supports daily student wellbeing and helps create a school environment where children feel welcomed, valued, and cared for.
The project has an estimated cost of $232,857.10, based on the current professional installation quote. The proposed work includes the play structure, site preparation, installation, wood borders, safety surfacing, and perimeter landscaping.
For St. Michael students, this project means more than new equipment. It means a stronger school experience. Recess, outdoor play, and shared activity help children practise cooperation, leadership, patience, resilience, and joy. These are not extras in a child’s development — they are part of how students grow socially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.
While the playground will directly serve St. Michael School, it also reflects the needs of the surrounding area. Rosscarrock has a strong base of children and families, a high newcomer presence, and many households facing affordability pressure, making safe, free, local recreation especially important.
Through the Calgary Catholic Education Foundation, donations to the St. Michael School Playground Project help create a renewed school play space rooted in dignity, inclusion, student wellbeing, and care for children.
