Every person deserves to be surrounded by family and friends as they continue their life path to its end. Airdrie and District Hospice Society supports those who are struggling to cope with the reality of dealing with death, diagnosis, and grief. along with the associated emotional realities of that process. We provide compassionate care to those living with a life-limiting, as well as grief and bereavement support to the families and friends of those who have lost loved ones, caregivers and anyone impacted by a diagnosis or loss. Although we do not have a physical location for our hospice services, we care for clients where they feel most comfortable, whether that is at their home, a nursing home, or at a hospital. Hospice Airdrie helps clients and their loved ones facing life-limiting illness and grief with compassionate care from professional volunteers. Our services are provided free of charge to residents in our service areas. Airdrie and District Hospice Society serves Airdrie, Balzac, Beiseker, Carstairs, Crossfield, Irricana, Kathryn, Keoma and Madden.
Palliative Care Companions – Specially trained volunteers who can provide a few hours of respite so caregivers can tend to their own needs, such as going shopping or attending an appointment. (Volunteers cannot provide medical care, but they can sit with a person and keep them company.)
Compassionate Care Fund – Certain medications, aids to daily living, and transportation to visit loved ones in hospice might not be covered by Alberta Health. We might be able to help you with some of these costs courtesy of the Compassionate Care Fund.
Grief Support Groups – We offer 6-week adult grief support groups four times per year, free of charge. Facilitators are specially trained to provide a supportive and safe environment to share your grief.
Children's Grief support program with trained facilitators through Rainbows Canada for All children ages 5-18.
Navigating The System – We can help you learn what services are available to you in the community through all stages before and after a death.
Education Sessions – Sessions include: Wills, Powers of Attorney, Personal Directives – What they Are; Cooking for One After A Loss; Coping With Grief Over the Holidays; and Goals of Care.
