Here is our summary of programs :
- Emergency Relief Programs
Our Emergency Relief Program is designed to provide assistance to individuals or families in personal distress, or who are victims of a physical disaster.
- Self-Sufficiency and Education Programs
We support vulnerable families by developing education and co-operative projects to generate income, foster community building, and strengthen traditional methods of self-sufficiency through agriculture, or small business activities.
- Children’s Welfare and Education Programs
As one of the world’s poorest countries, Burundi faces severe challenges in providing quality, affordable education to every child. After experiencing a 12-year civil war that ended in 2005, Burundi saw many of its schools destroyed, as well as extreme teacher shortages and a lack of access to educational resources.
We began our Back to School program in 2012, and so far the program has helped 200 children attend school. The program provides school uniforms, backbacks, shoes, books, and other supplies, ensuring that vulnerable children receive education. Since 2012, an estimated $16,000 has been raised, all from private donations.
Wings of Hope for Africa also sponsors individual children. An annual donation of $250 provides school supplies, basic needs such as food, school uniform, and a health care card, which allows the child to access medical services.
- Healthcare & Disease Prevention Education Programs
We work to educate families in prevention of malaria, and other mosquito-borne infectious diseases. In 2012, we also began a program to buy government health care cards for vulnerable families in Buterere.
