Cerebral Palsy Alberta (CPAA) envisions a life without limits for individuals in the disability community. It is our mission to make a difference by enriching and supporting the lives of children and adults we serve in the disability community. We are a registered non-profit organization, supporting the disability community throughout the province of Alberta. The CPAA is a visionary organization who has been serving Albertans since its inception in 1976. We are committed to an environment of dignity, integrity and respect. We put people first and promote diversity, independence and full citizenship. We are committed to excellence, effectiveness and accountability. Over the years, the CPAA has established itself as a leader in the delivery of programs and services for people with disabilities and has grown to serve over 4300 individuals within the province.
In 1976, a group of dedicated parents with a common goal of creating a support network, joined forces to create positive change for their families affected by cerebral palsy. Their mandate was to increase support services, inform government policy, provide life skills training, and provide employment and transportation accessibility. Since then, the CPAA has grown to offer more programs and services for all individuals in the disability community including professional counseling, job readiness training, recreation, therapeutic and leisure activities, referral and advocacy services, as well as community education programs.
In 2006, the CPAA became the first Canadian affiliate of United Cerebral Palsy (UCP), which is one of the largest disability networks in North America with affiliates worldwide. Being part of UCP connects us with an international initiative to increase independence, improve accessibility, and achieve equality for persons with disabilities across the globe.
As we move into the future, we continue to develop innovative and effective ways to contribute to our mission and vision. We are collaborating with like-minded organizations and reaching out to engage the community at large in hopes of increasing awareness and inclusion for individuals with all disabilities, not only cerebral palsy. Together with our generous supporters, we are working to create a life without limits – today.
