The True North Society is a domestic violence and healthy relationships resource that has been serving Strathmore - and more than 15 of its surrounding communities - for over 30 years through three main branches of service:
Emergency Shelter (which also houses our 24-hour Crisis & Support Line) that provides individuals fleeing violence safety, referral, advocacy, and supportive counselling for up to 30 days as they plan to transition to safe housing. True North provides a safe place for families and individuals until they are able to make their next step on their journey towards their "true north."
Outreach services: supportive counselling, safety planning, referrals, and advocacy for clients experiencing unhealthy or violent relationships who are not residing in shelter. Outreach services “reach out” into the community to support vulnerable individuals at all stages of their journey toward health and independence.
Community Early Intervention & Education Programming: educative programming is designed to increase awareness and decrease tolerance of violence and abuse by targeting the root risk causes of the later development of violence through workshops, community events, and teamwork with other resource providers with whom we share goals.
Each branch and program of the True North Society works with the same mission: to walk the path with those in crisis: honoring the past, providing support in the present, and awakening hope for the future. With the support of our community, we reach our vision of interrupting the cycle of abuse through empowerment to create a safe environment for all.
