SHARP is a Calgary based non-profit charitable organization with a mandate to provide a holistic, integrated (medical, physical, psycho-social, and spiritual aspects) spectrum of care to people living with complex health & social issues including HIV and other chronic diseases (Hep C, diabetes, cancers, lung disease, etc.), mental illness, addictions, poverty, histories of trauma/abuse/violence, homelessness, brain injury and more.
Our philosophy is to maintain or enhance quality of life by providing non-judgemental care and support with compassion. We believe that each person living with HIV will have housing, care and supports to meet their individual needs.
In order to create healthy homes and promote the well-being for persons living with HIV and other complex health & social issues, the SHARP Foundation develops services and programs for individuals requiring palliative, long term, intermediate, and independent living support.
We currently operate six programs: Beswick House (24/7 health/social care); Scott House (intermediate supports); Project 2011 (peer-mentored); Project Kathleen (24/7 intense psycho-social supports), Carlyle Commons (independent living with supports) and Murray's House (permanent supported housing). Unfortunately the need for our unique services far exceeds our current capacity; and we anticipate the demand to increase as the courageous individuals who have survived this disease are now aging.
All of the people we serve have income well below the poverty line so your generous contribution makes a BIG difference in their quality of life! SHARP's care is free and is largely funded through individual donations, small corporate grants and third-party fund raising.
